Neil Mellor says that while he is hopeful about Liverpool beating Middlesbrough on Sunday, nothing is a given in football.

The Merseyside giants, who thrashed West Ham United 4-0 last weekend, need to beat Boro at Anfield to be certain of a top four finish, especially after Manchester City and Arsenal won their respective games on Tuesday night.

Liverpool are currently fourth in the Premier League table with 73 points from 37 games, just two points adrift of the Citizens and one point ahead of the Gunners.

And Mellor, who thinks Liverpool will head into their clash with Middlesbrough with confidence, owing to their thumping win over West Ham, however is unwilling to take anything for granted, although he stated that he is hopeful about the Reds bagging the full three points at the weekend.

“I fully hope so”, he told LFC TV, when asked if he expects Liverpool to get the job done against Boro.

“Expect? Not in football. But I’m certainly hopeful.

“It was a great performance [against West Ham], the confidence will be there after that great victory at West Ham.”

Liverpool beat Middlesbrough 3-0 in the corresponding fixture at the Riverside Stadium in December.
