Former Manchester United and Ajax goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar admits Jose Mourinho’s side will get more support at the Friends Arena on Wednesday because of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

After completing their Premier League season against Crystal Palace later today at Old Trafford, Mourinho will turn his attention towards the pivotal game of their campaign on Wednesday night.

Manchester United will take on Ajax in the Europa League final and the Red Devils are hoping to win the trophy to earn entry into next season’s Champions League.

And Van der Sar, who played for both clubs, is expecting a hostile atmosphere for Ajax as he feels the local Swedish fans will back Manchester United because of the Ibrahimovic factor.

Speaking to Ajax Life, the club director said: “I am expecting the local fans to cheer for United.

“That’s natural as Zlatan Ibrahimovic plays there, but also because English football is very popular in Scandinavia.”

While Ibrahimovic won’t be featuring in the final because of a knee injury, the Swede will travel with Manchester United and will receive a winners’ medal if the Red Devils beat Ajax on the night to win the Europa League.

He is not expected to again feature for Manchester United, but Ibrahimovic is expected to pull in the Swedes to lend their voice for his club at the Friends Arena.
