Massimo Cellino is turning his attention towards Serie A club Genoa following his departure from Leeds United, as he considers how to spend the money made from selling the Whites.

Earlier this week the Italian businessman sold his remaining 50 per cent stake in Leeds to countryman Andrea Radrizzani, walking away from the Championship club following a stormy spell as owner.

He had been closing in on a quick return to football club ownership by negotiating a deal to take a 60 per cent shareholding in Serie B side Brescia.

But his bid to buy into Brescia has slowed amid current owner Marco Bonometti thinking carefully about the sale.

Now Cellino is looking elsewhere and, according to Corriere della Sera, he is considering buying Genoa.

Genoa president Enrico Preziosi is considering selling due to the bad debt situation at the club.

Cellino wants a chance to look at the club's books and has set up a meeting with Preziosi, whom he counts as a friend.

With one round of games left in Serie A this season, Genoa sit in 16th spot and safe from relegation.
