Rangers part-time academy coach Peter Lovenkrands has revealed that he has ambitions to reach a higher level in coaching and the job he has been handed by the Gers is a step in that direction.

As part of the revamp announced by the head of academy Craig Mulholland, the 37-year-old will now be working with the junior team in the intermediate phase after passing his UEFA A License recently.

The former striker insists that he is happy to have got the new role and with ambitions to reach the top he will try to give it his best in order to ensure that he puts up a strong case for himself.

Having missed an earlier chance to work with first-team manager Pedro Caixinha, in spite of being interviewed for a role, the former Denmark international now hopes that he uses all his experience to help the young players.

“I’m very excited to be fair and looking forward to the challenge", Lovenkrands told his club's official website.

“I got asked to come in and do the interviews for the assistant coach job for the first team and I missed out on that, and of course that was hard to take because I really wanted that.

“But then I got asked to come in for this one and I thought it was a really good opportunity to show what I can do and get a foot in the door with the coaching and trying to get my experience across to the younger players.

"I have ambitions, I would love to be higher up and this is a way for me to come in and kind of show what I can do and try to work my way up."
