Tottenham Hotspur target Joel Veltman has dropped a strong hint that he will be staying at Ajax.

The Dutch defender has been linked with a switch to Spurs, while a number of other clubs are also alive to his talents.

Veltman completed all 90 minutes for Ajax in Wednesday night's Europa League final against Manchester United, which the Dutch giants lost 2-0.

Nevertheless, Veltman is not disheartened and believes that good times are ahead for Ajax, with the club potentially entering a golden era – and as such the defender has posed the question 'why would anyone leave?'.

"I see it like this – we have a good team, a team that can go far in Europe", Veltman was quoted as saying by ELF Voetbal

"Okay, internationally Ajax works as a training club, with sales each year and players must be sold each year, but within the group there is a strong feeling that if we continue this way, we will certainly win trophies.

"We are at the beginning of a golden age.

"Why would you leave?" Veltman added.

The average age of the Ajax side that took on Manchester United in the final was just 22 years and 280 days, with six of those handed starts being under the age of 21.

Ajax even had a 17-year-old on the pitch in the shape of defender Matthijs de Ligt.

The Dutch giants may have missed out on qualifying for the Champions League by winning the Europa League, but Ajax did qualify for the competition through their league performance, with a second place finish in the Eredivisie.
