Massimo Cellino is set to hold a meeting with Genoa's managing director as he eyes a quick-fire return to football club ownership following his sale of Leeds United.

The Italian businessman sold 50 per cent of Leeds to countryman Andrea Radrizzani earlier this year, before then offloading the remaining 50 per cent to Radrizzani recently, sealing his departure from Elland Road.

But Cellino is not set to be out of football for long and has been looking at taking a controlling stake in Serie B side Brescia, putting the money received from selling Leeds to good use.

In recent days though an option in Serie A has appeared in the shape of Genoa and Cellino is now pressing the accelerator on a potential bid for the Rossoblu.

According to Unione Sarda's Alberto Masu, revealed on Tele Nord's Anterprima Derby, Cellino has spoken by phone with Genoa managing director Alessandro Zarbano.

The pair have now agreed to hold face to face talks next Monday.

Genoa, under president Enrico Preziosi, are suffering under the weight of debts and Cellino is keen to take a look at the club's books.

The Rossoblu finished in 16th spot in Serie A this season, four points clear of the drop zone.
