West Bromwich Albion are keen to push for a breakthrough in signing Leeds United left-back Charlie Taylor this week.

The 23-year-old, who is expected to leave Elland Road after his present contract with Leeds expires in the summer, was fined two weeks’ wages by the Yorkshire giants as he refused to turn out in their last game of the season away at Wigan Athletic.

Taylor has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including West Brom, with the Whites having offered the defender a new deal in order to make sure they will be due a compensation fee when he does move on.

Although Tony Pulis has been open about his interest in signing Taylor, the West Brom boss does not want to run the risk of a tribunal deciding the fee; Pulis wants the clubs to agree on a fee for the former England Under-19 international.

And according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Baggies are now looking to push for an opening in their attempts to sign Taylor this week.

The full-back, who has progressed through Leeds’ youth system, made 32 appearances in all competitions in the recently concluded season.

Taylor slapped in a transfer request last summer, but Leeds did not accept it and the Championship club were also unwilling to sell him during the January transfer window.
