Garry Monk has agreed to take over at Middlesbrough and will take James Beattie with him, something which further indicates he could be succeeded at Leeds United by Pep Clotet.

The former Swansea City manager recently opted to knock back a contract extension at Leeds and head elsewhere; his coaching staff, assistant Clotet and first team coach Beattie, are still at Elland Road.

Monk has increasingly been a frontrunner for the vacant Middlesbrough job, while in recent days Clotet has shot to the top of the betting to become the new Leeds boss.

According to Radio Yorkshire's Head of Sport Derek Clark, Monk has indeed said yes to Middlesbrough and is set to be announced as the club's new manager in the coming days.

It is claimed that Beattie is going with Monk to the Riverside Stadium.

With no word on Clotet though, petrol will be poured on the fire of speculation suggesting the Spaniard is poised to step up from his assistant role at Elland Road to succeed Monk as head coach.

Clotet, who is currently on holiday in Italy, is attracting significant backing from Leeds fans, despite his lack of managerial experience.

Former Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka had until recently been the favourite to take charge at Leeds.
