The cold relationship between Jose Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo could hinder Manchester United’s probable pursuit of the Portuguese superstar this summer.

According to reports in Portugal and Spain, the four-time Champions League winner has told Real Madrid that he wants to leave the club this summer.

It has been claimed that the Portuguese superstar is angry with the tax fraud allegations that a federal prosecutor in Spain has brought forward against him in the country.

Ronaldo is said to be unwilling to return to the Spanish capital next season and it has been suggested that a return to Manchester United would be his first preference should he leave the Bernabeu this summer.

Manchester United vice-chairman Ed Woodward is expected to press on the accelerator should he receive any indication that Ronaldo is eyeing the exit door at Real Madrid.

However, according to Marca, his return to Old Trafford could hit a roadblock because of Mourinho, who shares a cold relationship with his compatriot at the moment.

The chemistry between the two thawed during Mourinho’s last season at Real Madrid and it is unclear whether the duo have mended their differences over the last few years.

Super agent Jorge Mendes could be tasked with the job of getting the two on board again if Manchester United make a move for Ronaldo this summer.

Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have also been linked with Ronaldo, but a move to Manchester City has been ruled out because of his history with the Red side of Manchester.
