Newcastle United are one a number of clubs showing an interest in Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons this summer, who is set to snub his Ligue 1 suitors if he does quit Les Gones.

With a year left on his contract with Lyon, the defensive midfielder is expected to take a decision on his future at the club and is aware that there are teams across Europe who are interested in him.

He is yet to make any definitive decision on whether he will continue at Lyon or not, but his representatives have been sounding out potential suitors about his availability.

Rafael Benitez is a big fan of the 28-year-old and wanted to sign him when he was managing Napoli and according to L’Equipe, he is also considering taking him to England this summer.

However, the Magpies are not the only club who are chasing Gonalons this summer as there are claims that even AC Milan are interested in snapping up the midfielder.
