New Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen believes that striker Chris Wood deserves to play at a higher level, hinting that the Whites must go up to the Premier League sooner or later to keep the New Zealander.

There has been interest from the Premier League in the striker, who was in great form for the Whites last season, with West Ham, Stoke City and Southampton all showing keenness.

However, the New Zealand striker said recently he is looking forward to the opportunity to work under the newly appointed manager.

The manager in response to the comments made by his player has said that it was good for the 25-year-old to have expressed his wish to work with him.

As far as Wood's abilities are concerned, Christiansen believes that there is still a lot of capability in the player and his club need to go up that one level in order to give Wood the level he deserves.

“Who wouldn’t want a player who scores 30 goals? I rate him very highly", the manager was quoted as saying by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I’m happy that he came out the other day in the press saying he would look forward to working with me.

"That’s a very good sign.

"He’s a young player still with many years of football left.

"He will, for sure, have the same target as I have.

“I believe I can make him better and he should be better.

"He should not stay at this level.

"It’s a good level of course if you score this many goals but you should always want to raise your targets, to be ambitious in all that you do.”
