Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette has not completely ruled out the possibility of joining Atletico Madrid this summer, but Arsenal are currently leading the chase for his signature.

Atletico Madrid were in talks with Lyon for the striker's signature earlier in the summer and the player was also keen to move to the Spanish capital but a transfer ban complicated the scenario for the Spanish giants.

Lacazette was keen on linking up with his France team-mate Antoine Griezmann at Atletico Madrid’s new stadium, the Wanda Metropolitano, and according to L’Equipe, he has not completely dismissed the chance of joining Diego Simeone’s side.

A move to Atletico Madrid this summer would mean Lacazette won’t be able to play until January next year, when the club are again allowed to register new players.

And it could jeopardise the French striker's chances of playing in the World Cup in Russia but Lacazette has not been a big part of Didier Deschamps’ plans and only played 17 minutes in the recent international games.

The 26-year-old is considering whether he should give up the chance of joining Champions League regulars in hope of playing in the national team, where he has never been a key figure because of the options available for Deschamps.

However, Arsenal, who have offered €50m to Lyon, have the advantage over the Spanish giants and are still confident of getting a deal over the line for the Frenchman.

The Gunners are set for a summit with Lyon next week, where they will be hoping to finalise an agreement.
