Tottenham Hotspur skipper Hugo Lloris has revealed that the biggest disappointment from an otherwise impressive 2016/17 campaign was the Champions League, though the positive aspect of it all is that Spurs have learnt from their mistakes.

The Lilywhites were knocked out from the group stage of the campaign after finishing as the third team in Group E.

While the ensuing Europa League campaign was also a disaster, the Lilywhites bounced back well to finish the league on a high, finishing seven points behind champions Chelsea.

According to Lloris, the team lost their identity while playing in the Champions League and they can have regrets about that. However, the team recovered well to do well in the Premier League, losing just four games, fewer than any other team.

“The only disappointment was the Champions League”, Lloris told his club's official website.

“That was a strange campaign. It wasn’t Tottenham, it wasn’t our identity and we can have some regrets.

“I did question how we might deal with that back in the Premier League because we fought all last season to get into the Champions League and as soon as you are there, you fail – and not just the results but the way we played.

“The reaction of the team was fantastic, though, and step by step, we became stronger and stronger.

"That means we learned from our mistakes and that’s positive.”

The Londoners will return to the Champions League once again next term and will hope to do better than last year.
