Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is hoping to get to grips with the philosophy of new head coach Thomas Christiansen as soon as possible during pre-season.

The 21-year-old midfielder flourished under Garry Monk last season at Elland Road and played a key role in the Yorkshire giants finishing seventh in the Championship.




The midfielder will be looking to push on next season, but with Monk leaving Leeds in the summer, Phillips will be hoping to impress new boss Christiansen and remain a key part of his plans going forward.

The Leeds academy product revealed that the new head coach has already spoken with the players about his coaching philosophy and he admits that it is up to the players to adapt to Christiansen’s methods as soon as possible.
 


Asked for his first impression of the new Leeds manager, Phillips told LUTV: “It was a good first impression.

“We had a meeting and he told us what his philosophy is and we’ll be working on that soon.

“So hopefully we can all get to grips with it real quick.”

The midfielder has conceded that there are always some initial nerves when it comes to working under a new manager but he admits it is up to him to prove his worth to Christiansen during pre-season.

“I suppose there is always nerves with a new manager and you don’t know whether he is going to like you or not.

“All you've got to do is give your best.”
