FC Lugano are keen on Jerry Mbakogu as a replacement for the departing Ezgjan Alioski.

Alioski was in sublime form for Lugano last season, scoring 16 goals in the Swiss Super League, and is being chased by Leeds United and Atalanta, with the English side mooted to have the edge.

Lugano appear to have already given up on any hope of keeping Alioski at the club and are now actively planning for life without the Macedonia international.

According to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport, Lugano are looking at a swoop for Carpi striker Mbakogu.

The striker had a recent loan spell in Russia with Krylia Sovetov before returning to Italy.

He clocked up 15 appearances in Serie B for Carpi last term and scored four goals in the process, along with chipping in with five assists.

Lugano's focus on Mbakogu could point towards an imminent departure for Alioski.

It remains to be seen whether the Nigerian would be able to fill Alioski's boots at the Swiss outfit.
