Chelsea and Liverpool look to have lost out on Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy after he said yes to joining Manchester City.

Mendy was in superb form for Monaco last season as the principality club won the Ligue 1 title and excelled in the Champions League and he is not short of options this summer.

The defender though has settled on what he wants – and according to French sports daily L'Equipe it is a move to Manchester City.

Liverpool have had a long-standing interest in Mendy, while Chelsea recently rekindled their interest.

But Mendy has told Monaco and his coach Leonardo Jardim that he wants to join Manchester City in the transfer window this summer.

Monaco though are sticking to their stance that Mendy will not leave unless they receive an offer simply too good to refuse.

Manchester City and Monaco have been in contact over recent days and the Ligue 1 champions value Mendy at between €40m and €45m.

The ball is now in Manchester City's court to make sure they can satisfy Monaco and take Mendy to England.
