Lazio are making a fresh attempt to convince Liverpool target Stefan de Vrij to sign a new contract by agreeing to insert a release clause.

The Netherlands international, who has reportedly been the subject of bids from Liverpool and Valencia this summer, has just a year to run on his current deal and is minded to see it out before departing on a free transfer next year.

Lazio have been keen not to sell De Vrij for less than they believe he is worth and are still trying hard to convince him to sign a new deal.

Now, according to Italian daily La Repubblica, Lazio have offered to include a release clause in a new contract.

The Rome giants are willing to set the figure at €28m, in a bid to persuade De Vrij to sign.

Amid the offer, French side Marseille have lodged an enquiry with Lazio over the centre-back.

Lazio have indicated a minimum of €20m must be put on the table, though Marseille would like to pay less.

De Vrij is claimed to be ready to consider a move to Marseille, even though he wants to join a club with Champions League football to offer.
