Nice have abandoned the idea of signing out-of-favour Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy due to his wage demands.

The 31-year-old right-back is desperate to leave Arsenal this summer after his career stalled at the Emirates and he seemed to be on his way back to France earlier this week.

Nice were interested in snapping him up and the defender was believed to be close to joining the Ligue 1 club, but it seems the deal has fallen through at the last moment.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe, the Ligue 1 club have turned their attention towards other targets after it became clear Debuchy was unaffordable for them.

It has been claimed that the Frenchman’s wage demands put off Nice and the club have abandoned the idea of signing the defender from Arsenal this summer.
