Nice have stepped up on their efforts to sign Leicester City midfielder Nampalys Mendy and the midfielder has arrived in France for talks.

Leicester have been trying to offload the midfielder all summer and the Foxes man was close to joining Atalanta last week before the move was called off after the two clubs failed to reach a definitive agreement.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been on the radar of a few Ligue 1 clubs with Bordeaux and Saint-Etienne believed to be keen to take him back France this summer.

But on deadline day his former club have Nice have pressed the accelerator on negotiations with Leicester and according to French sports daily L’Equipe, the midfielder has arrived in France.

Saint-Etienne are still in the transfer mix, but for the moment Nice are leading the chase to land Mendy and are keen to conclude a deal by the end of the day today.

The midfielder is expected to leave Leicester on an initial loan move with Nice reserving an option to sign him on a permanent deal at a later date.

Mendy joined Leicester from Nice last summer but struggled with injuries and form, which didn’t allow him to settle down at the King Power Stadium.

And it seems his time at Leicester is going to end with just ten senior appearances under his belt.
