Alexis Sanchez thought he was moving to Manchester City, but the deal fell apart when Thomas Lemar turned down a switch to Arsenal.

Arsenal accepted a £60m bid from Manchester City but Arsene Wenger was unwilling to lose Sanchez on deadline day before signing a replacement first.

And with the Monaco winger snubbing a move to Arsenal, the Chilean’s move to Manchester City has been called off and Pep Guardiola won’t be making another bid for him in the final hours of the window.

According to the BBC, Sanchez had told those close to him that he was going to Manchester City.

But with Lemar saying no to Arsenal, Sanchez is now facing the scenario of running down the final year of his contract at Arsenal and leaving on a free transfer next summer.
