Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks with Barcelona for the signature of midfielder Andre Gomes on deadline day.

Spurs are in the market for a midfielder on the final day of the window and have been scouring the market for a solution, with Everton’s Ross Barkley being a target.

However, Tottenham's pursuit of Barkley has not been straightforward and the club are now looking at other targets, with Barcelona midfielder Gomes emerging as an option for the club.

And according to Sky Sports News HQ, the north London club are in talks with Barcelona and are exploring the option of signing the Portugal international from the Catalan giants.

Barcelona paid big money to sign the Portuguese from Valencia last summer, but he didn’t set the stage on fire with his performances in his first season at the Nou Camp.

The Catalan giants maintained all summer that Gomes will be part of their plans this season but the club could be prepared to ship him out in the last leg of the transfer window.

Gomes has also been linked with a loan move to West Ham, but Tottenham are the ones who are currently in negotiations with Barcelona for the Portuguese midfielder.
