Arsene Wenger has vowed that Arsenal will make a new attempt to sign Liverpool target Thomas Lemar from Monaco.

Liverpool were in talks with Monaco about signing Lemar as deadline day approached, but the Reds would not meet the Ligue 1 side's asking price of €100m.

Arsenal stole in on deadline day and offered €100m for Lemar, which Monaco accepted, but the winger let it be known he did not want to move to the Emirates Stadium.

Wenger has not been put off however and says he will go back in for Lemar at a later date; Liverpool have also been tipped to rekindle their interest.

The Arsenal boss said on French TV programme Telefoot: "Yes, all true [about the €100m bid], I wanted him.

"He decided to stay at Monaco.

"We will come back for him", Wenger added.

Monaco were not keen on letting Lemar leave this summer, but felt with a €100m bid on the table they had to accept.

But the winger has chosen to stay put at the Stade Louis II and the knock on effect was felt in England as Arsenal then refused to sell Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City.

It remains to be seen if Wenger will make his new approach when the window opens again in January, or instead waits until the summer.
