Charlton Athletic boss Karl Robinson thinks his side have a "top player" in the shape of Rangers striker Joe Dodoo, who is on loan from the Scottish giants.

Dodoo fell out of favour at Ibrox and was loaned to the English League One club on transfer deadline day.

The striker quickly made his presence felt and scored for Charlton in their 4-3 win away at Oldham Athletic on Saturday.

Robinson is delighted with his signing and believes that Dodoo is a top player, with much more come from someone who he thinks is "miles off" in terms of settling down at Charlton and gelling with his team-mates.

"He went up there as a bit of a teen sensation and it didn’t really materialise", Robinson said to his club's official site, referring to Dodoo's Rangers move.

"We know that Joe is a top player.

"He’s still miles off, you can see he doesn’t get in shape yet, he plays off the cuff but hopefully he can grow with this team.

"We’re young, we’re energetic and hopefully he’s another one of them. To get a goal on your debut is great for him", the Charlton boss added.

Dodoo's loan spell at Charlton is set to run until January, but it remains to be seen whether the striker still has a future at Rangers under Pedro Caixinha.

The 22-year-old notched up 25 appearances for Rangers last term, hitting the back of the net on five occasions.
