Pedro Caixinha has explained that having players in the Scotland national team is a goal for Rangers, with the country still being in the running for a spot in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan did not name a single Rangers player while announcing the squad for the nation’s recent World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and Malta.

Strachan’s team beat Lithuania 3-0 on Friday and defeated Malta 2-0 on Monday night to keep their hopes of finishing second in Group F alive.

And Caixinha, who admitted that Scotland have been playing well, however was quick to say that Rangers want to see their players in the national team in the build up to the World Cup.

“It’s one of our goals.

“We know they’re doing good.

“We know and we expect them to be at least in the playoffs.

“And we also want to contribute our players in their run to the World Cup.”

During Caixinha’s predecessor Mark Warburton’s spell at Ibrox, Rangers managed call-ups to the Scotland national team in the form of Lee Wallace and then Gers star Barrie McKay.
