Lazio have made a one-off payment to Genk to remove the sell on clause for midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who was reportedly the subject of bids from Liverpool, Juventus and Inter in the summer window.
The Serbian midfielder’s future was under the scanner all summer, with clubs from Italy and England believed to be interested in snaring him away from the Roman club.
Juventus and Inter were keen on securing his signature and Premier League giants Liverpool were also credited with making a bid for the player during the recently concluded transfer window.
And Lazio president Claudio Lotito did reveal last month that he turned down a bid worth €70m for Milinkovic-Savic, as he was unwilling to lose the player in the summer.
Now, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A club have taken a giant step towards maximizing their profits should they sell Milinkovic-Savic to a top club in the near future for big money.

They have paid Genk, the midfielder’s former club, a sum of €9m to remove the 50 per cent sell on clause they agreed when he joined Lazio from the Belgian club in 2015.
Lazio are aware that there is going to be more interest in Milinkovic-Savic when the transfer window opens again should he continue to perform consistently in the Italian top tier.
And the club have made sure that any big money move for the midfielder would mean a huge profit withouth Genk being due 50 per cent.
