Borussia Dortmund will be without their skipper Marcel Schmelzer when they take on Tottenham Hotspur in a Champions League clash on Wednesday.

The left-back, who will be sidelined for six weeks with a partial tear of his ankle joint, picked up the injury during Dortmund’s goalless draw with Freiburg at the weekend.

Schmelzer was on the receiving end of a nasty foul from Yoric Ravet in the 27th minute and had to be withdrawn.

Ravet initially received a yellow card for the tackle before the referee’s decision was revised by the Video Assistant Referee and the Freiburg player was sent off.

Schmelzer, who was making his first appearance of the present campaign after suffering a similar injury in pre-season, will be out of action for a month-and-a-half.

Fellow Dortmund defender Marc Bartra is also doubtful for his side’s trip to Wembley Stadium on Wednesday after picking up a groin problem against Freiburg.

It remains to be seen if the Spaniard also misses Dortmund’s clash against Spurs in the Champions League Group H encounter.

But the absence of Schmelzer will be a boost for Spurs at Wembley.
