Neil Mellor is expecting Liverpool to take revenge on Sevilla for their Europa League final loss against the Spaniards.

Sevilla arrive at Anfield on Wednesday night for both sides' opening Champions League group stage games and the Spanish giants are widely considered to be the toughest test Jurgen Klopp's men will face in Group E; Maribor and Spartak Moscow are also in the group.

Mellor thinks Liverpool will make no mistake against Sevilla and should have 2016's Europa League final defeat at the hands of the Spaniards in their minds.

Liverpool lost the final 3-1 in Switzerland and can extract a measure of revenge on Wednesday.

"I think Sevilla will be one of our toughest opponents in the group, but we owe them one don't we after that Europa League final", Mellor said on LFC TV.

"So hopefully we can get that win."

The former Liverpool striker also insisted the Reds will be desperate to put Saturday's 5-0 drubbing at Manchester City firmly behind them with a good performance against Sevilla.

"I think they will be looking forward to putting it right.

"There will be a response on Wednesday night for sure", he added.

Sevilla won their game at the weekend, beating Eibar 3-0 in La Liga.
