Atletico Madrid are not prepared to offer more than an initial €55m for out-of-favour Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

The 28-year-old has not returned to Chelsea from his holidays in Brazil and has been keen to return to Atletico Madrid over the last few months.

An agreement remained elusive during the summer transfer window, but since Costa won’t be able to play for Atletico Madrid until January, the Spanish giants are looking to push through the deal at the moment.

According to Spanish sports daily Marca, Atletico Madrid have made an offer worth €55m plus another €10m in bonuses to Chelsea and were hoping to strike a deal last week.

However, a disagreement regarding a loyalty payment to Costa has held up the deal, but Atletico Madrid are not willing to go beyond their current offer for the striker.

With Antonio Conte making it clear that Costa has no future at Chelsea, Atletico Madrid feel they are already paying over the odds to take the striker back to the Spanish capital.

The Spanish giants are unwilling to add any more millions to their current offer and are confident of reaching an agreement with Chelsea as soon as possible.

Chelsea have been trying to offload Costa, but have been left angry with the way the player has behaved since the end of last season.
