Burnley boss Sean Dyche has indicated Charlie Taylor is in line to face former club Leeds United on Tuesday night in the EFL Cup and insisted the only reason the left-back has not played of late is tactical.

Taylor, who joined from Leeds in the summer, has played just one match for the Clarets and that too in the EFL Cup against Blackburn Rovers.

Taylor's performance in the match impressed his manager, who insists there can be no question marks over the 24-year-old's ability.

Dyche insists that given how Taylor has been acquitting himself in training, it is only a matter of time before he starts to clock up regular appearances for the Clarets.

“It is almost impossible that Charlie is not involved at the moment. He’s doing fantastically well and I thought he was terrific against Blackburn", Dyche told his club's official website.

When asked the reason behind his not selecting the Leeds academy recruit in the last two league matches, Dyche said that the decision was purely tactical.

“It’s more of a tactical reason as to why he hasn’t been involved in the last two.

"His time will come, and he’s certainly applying himself correctly."

Dyche also took time to welcome competition within his squad as he believes that it will help players bring out the best in themselves.

“He’s just one example of many who are really pushing, because there is a real competition in the group.

“It’s a good headache to have because we want players to be playing well.”

Chris Wood will be yet another former Leeds man who will be in-line to feature against his former club on Tuesday night.
