Charlie Taylor has insisted that what was put out into the media about his departure from Leeds United was not the truth and revealed he will one day set the record straight.

The left-back refused to sign a new contract at Leeds last season and eventually departed the club in the summer, joining Premier League side Burnley when his deal at Elland Road expired.

Taylor, who could face Leeds for Burnley this evening in the EFL Cup, was claimed to have refused to play for the Whites in their final game last season.

As such his exit from Leeds left a bitter taste in the mouths of a number of the Whites faithful – but Taylor is clear that there are two sides to every story and says he hopes in future to be able to set the record straight.

He wrote in Burnley's official matchday programme: "There are two sides to every story and the one that was out in the media wasn't the truth.

"I will go into more detail one day about that.

"I couldn't really get my point across and it didn't really end on great terms or how I wanted it to end", Taylor explained.

"Hopefully I can clear that up one day.

"I'll probably expect some stick tonight, if I play, but that's football and it is what it is", he added.

Taylor first failed to agree a new contract with Leeds last summer, when the Whites were owned by Massimo Cellino, and slapped in a transfer request as he looked to leave the Yorkshire club.

But Leeds refused to sell Taylor and still stuck to their stance in the January transfer window earlier this year, meaning that the defender was forced to wait until his contract expired this summer before moving on.
