Liverpool have suffered a blow in their admiration of midfielder Leon Goretzka as he is not interested in a move to England, with Bayern Munich and Barcelona move in pole position to sign him.

The Germany midfielder’s contract at Schalke expires at the end of the season and he is not expected to sign a new contract to extend his stay with the Bundesliga side.

Premier League clubs such as Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea have been keeping tabs on his situation with a view to signing him on a free transfer next summer.

However, they are set to face disappointment in their pursuit of Goretzka as according to German magazine Sport Bild, the midfielder is not likely to consider a move to England next year.

Bayern Munich have been touted as his eventual destination and there are suggestions that his representatives have already agreed a deal with the German champions.

However, the Bavarians are unlikely to get a clear path towards signing Goretzka as Spanish giants Barcelona are also interested in and considering signing him up on a free transfer too.

The midfielder is weighing up the options and he is expected to make a final decision over his future during the winter break.
