Former Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn has picked out Whites defender Connor Shaughnessy’s most impressive trait as a centre-back.

The 21-year-old defender has excelled under Thomas Christiansen this season and his performance against Burnley on Tuesday night has earned him widespread praise.

The young centre-back signed new four-year contract with the club on Thursday, displaying the faith and trust Leeds have in him going forward and Redfearn is also a big fan of Shaughnessy.

The former Leeds boss is especially impressed by the defender’s decision making and admits that Shaughnessy shows great maturity in the way he deals with danger inside the box.

Redfearn believes it requires great awareness to know when to just clear the ball and when to try to play out from the back.

Asked about Shaughnessy, the former Leeds boss said on Radio Yorkshire’s Yorkshire Football Show: “The one thing that impresses me about him is that he is unfussy.

“He just does what is required.

"When you need it he just heads it or kicks it and if he can play he plays [the ball].

“For a young head, that’s a man and his positional sense is fantastic.”

The 21-year-old Irishman joined Leeds after being released by Reading last year and has made six senior appearances for the club.
