Jose Mourinho does not agree that previous Manchester United sides over the last few years lacked pace and feels it is the style of football that is making his team look faster this season.

Manchester United have looked more threatening and faster in attack this season with forwards such as Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial all having pace to burn.

Mourinho’s team have already netted 16 goals in their first five league matches and many believe that pace up front this term has made Manchester United a much more potent attacking force.

However, the Manchester United manager does not agree with the notion that the Red Devils lacked pace in their squad over the last few years and feels it is the style of football that is making the difference.

He also pointed out that pace in football has a different meaning to other sports and it is the players who are making it look that they have speed to burn with their football.

Asked if Manchester United finally have the pace in their team that was lacking in the last few years, Mourinho said in a press conference: “Lacking? I don’t think so.

“A team with [Danny] Welbeck, [Angel] Di Maria I don’t think lacked speed and the many fast players Manchester United had over the years.

“I think it’s just the style that you want to implement that makes the team faster or not fast.

"In football the meaning of speed is different than in other sports.

“Speed in football is about speed of your brain, the speed of your decisions and with the quality of our players we are trying to implement that fast football.”

Mourinho will be hoping that his fast attackers produce one more performance and win three points when Manchester United travel to Southampton later today.
