Leeds United lack physical players and as such are not capable of bullying teams, former Whites forward Noel Whelan feels.

Thomas Christiansen saw his side lose their second away league game on the bounce at Cardiff City on Tuesday night, going down 3-1.

Leeds could not cope with Cardiff's intense physical play and it was a similar story earlier in the month when the Whites lost at Millwall.

Whelan is keen for Leeds to compete, but believes their summer transfer activity has been focused on technical players who are good with the ball at their feet.

As such he does not feel Leeds are able to play a physical game or go out onto a pitch and bully opposing teams in the Championship.

"I'm not sure whether we've got that kind of player – we've bought footballing players, people who are good on the deck and can play with the ball in tight areas", Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds.

"When it comes to that physical element, we are lacking.

"When I look at what Cardiff were like, yes they roughed us up, yes they put in a few tough challenges, but you're going to have to accept that.

"If we look at the size of the team we've got, I am not sure we can go out and bully teams. I don't think they've got it in them."

Despite losing in Wales, Leeds still sit in second spot in the Championship with 20 points from ten games.

The Whites next travel to Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, before the international break kicks in.

Leeds then play Jaap Stam's Reading on 14th October, while a trip to Bristol City is set for 21st October.
