Former Rangers striker Steven Thompson has blasted Pedro Caixinha and says if the Gers lose at Hamilton this evening then the Portuguese "absolutely should go".

Caixinha is under immense pressure at Rangers after splashing the cash in the summer and then leading the Gers to a humiliating first qualifying round exit in the Europa League.

The Ibrox side's form in the Scottish Premiership has also been lacklustre and they were second best against rivals Celtic last weekend on home turf.

Now there is increasing talk of unhappiness in the dressing room and veteran striker Kenny Miller has been demoted to the Under-20s after a falling out with the Portuguese.

Thompson is unhappy about the situation and in a passionate take on the situation at Ibrox does not see how there is a happy ending to the Caixinha story, which he sees unfolding like a horror film.

And the former Rangers striker even went as far as to say that if the Gers lose this evening at Hamilton then Caixinha should go.

"If he doesn't win it then Rangers will be looking for a new manager – that's how strongly I feel about it", Thompson said on BBC Sport Scotland Facebook Live.

"Some of the stuff that's come out of Ibrox under his reign in terms of what he's said has been confusing, it's left you scratching your head.

"This week was no different, when he talked about what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

"He repeated it four or five times in the interview and he was alluding to the fact that they'd had a team meeting and in that team meeting some of the information had escaped to the press.

"I can only presume that he's blaming Kenny Miller for that because apparently he will be left out of the squad for the match at Hamilton.

"For me it is a ridiculous decision. Kenny is a massive player for the club and a very influential player.

"If that is the case it shows there is a huge breakdown in communication between the manager and the players within the club.

"I think he had a pop at the homegrown players at the start of the week saying that they had not helped the foreign players to integrate.

"But to ostracise Kenny Miller at a time when he needs togetherness in the dressing room, when Kenny is one of the biggest figures there, for me is completely nonsensical.

"I think he has run out of, not time, but excuses definitely. One of his comments was you'll see the real Rangers against Hamilton – where was the real Rangers against Celtic? Surely the real Rangers were required last Saturday?

"Now that quote in itself would bring on criticism.

"He goes tonight to Hamilton who will be robust, difficult to beat and in your face.

"If he doesn't win tonight's game I can't see a future for him at the club.

"He could go, but absolutely should go.

"There is too much going on in the background.

"He's not backing up what he's saying in the press with results.

"It's like a horror film now where you're like this [covering your eyes] and you know what the ending is going to be.

"It's going to take a remarkable turnaround of events for him to get the Rangers fans back on board", Thompson added.

Caixinha was backed in the summer window and his defenders have urged the Portuguese be given time to gel his new-look team.
