Juan Mata has played down Manchester United’s position in the league table and has stressed the importance of the team holding on to their momentum after the international break.

Mata scored the first goal in Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace this afternoon, with Marouane Fellaini scoring a brace and Romelu Lukaku also netting his eleventh goal of the season.

Manchester United depended heavily on Zlatan Ibrahimovic to get the goals last year and while Lukaku has taken over the burden of being the man’s target man with aplomb, the rest of the team have been chipping in with more goals in the current campaign.

Other than Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini and the injured Paul Pogba have found the back of the net this season.

And Mata admits that not depending on one man to get the goals has been key for the side this season and there has been zeal from others to make their presence felt, even from the substitutes' bench.

The Spaniard told MUTV: “It is a little bit more than what happened last season with Zlatan scoring most of the goals we try to put some goals in the list this season.

“Everyone is scoring and that’s key part of the good start of the season because everyone is having chances.

"People coming from the bench are helping the team.

“Everyone has a good mentality and a good mood to help the team at any time and that’s what makes the team better.”

With Manchester City involved in the late kickoff at Chelsea, Manchester United moved to the top of the league table, but Mata doesn’t want to read too much into their position at this early stage of the season.

The creative midfielder feels it is important that they manage to hold on to their level of performances after the international break.

“We could have won every single game, but we are happy at the moment and we are happy to be in this position.

“But it’s just the beginning of October and we need to keep going.”

Manchester United will return from the international break with a tough trip to Anfield where they will take on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on 14th October.
