Former Arsenal winger Marc Overmars is to return to the club at the end of the season, it has been claimed.

Overmars is currently the director of football at Dutch giants Ajax and has regularly been linked with moving to the Emirates Stadium to take up the same role.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Overmars has now agreed a move to Arsenal and will leave Ajax at the end of the season to head to north London.

Overmars turned out for Arsenal as a player between 1997 and 2000, before leaving to sign for Barcelona.

The Gunners have received criticism for failings regarding player recruitment and retention in recent years and could be looking towards Overmars to make the difference.
