St. Johnstone forward Steven MacLean has aimed a jibe at Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha, ahead of his side’s meeting with the Light Blues on Friday.

Rangers were due to travel to Canada to face Portuguese giants Benfica in a friendly last Friday, but saw the match cancelled at the last minute.

As a result, the Gers arranged a quick friendly with Greenock Morton on Saturday, with the game ending in a 3-3 draw.

After the contest, Caixinha compared the Scottish Championship outfit to St. Johnstone by stating that both clubs share the same philosophy.

And MacLean, who revealed that he had a laugh when he read Caixinha’s comments, feels the Portuguese is trying to wind the Saints up.

The striker then mockingly said that his side are “petrified” of Rangers, but was quick to add that the Gers manager’s comments will add spice to the game.

“I did have a little chuckle when I read his comments”, MacLean was quoted as saying by the Evening Times.

“It is more of Pedro’s mind games.

“There are similarities with Morton.

“We both play in blue and white.

“I don’t know where he is coming from.

“Maybe he is trying to wind us up.

“He’s doing a good job of it.

“We are all petrified!

“I think he should worry about stopping leaks coming out his dressing room.

“We will take care of his own business and he can keep doing what he wants.

“It is good banter and we do enjoy it.

“It does add a bit of spice to the game.”

Both Rangers and St. Johnstone have 14 points from eight games, but the Ibrox outfit occupy third spot in the table, owing to having a superior goal difference.
