Former Manchester United winger Memphis Depay has cast doubt on a return to Old Trafford by admitting he is aiming to earn a move to Real Madrid and is convinced it will happen.

Manchester United snapped Depay up from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, but he struggled to live up to expectations and was offloaded to French side Lyon in January this year.

The Red Devils included a buy-back clause in the deal, giving them the option to take Depay back to England if he finds his feet in Ligue 1 and makes good on his potential.

But Depay is not thinking about moving back to Manchester United as his goal is to earn a dream switch to Real Madrid.

"I think I'm going to Real Madrid", Depay told PSV Supporters.

"Yes, that is a serious goal.

"When the time will come? That only God knows. He helps me and takes me there."

Depay has scored three goals and provided three assists for Lyon in nine appearances in all competitions so far this season.

There has been little to suggest the Dutchman is on Real Madrid's radar, meaning he is likely to have much work ahead to convince the Spanish giants he merits another shot at playing for one of the world's biggest clubs.
