Jose Mourinho has rubbished the suggestion that Manchester United have received an easy ride this season thus far in the Premier League and was quick to remind critics that his team dropped points against seemingly easier opponents last year.

Going into Saturday’s away game at Liverpool, Manchester United are at the top of the Premier League table, level on points with Manchester City after seven games.

But many feel their good start is owed to the fact that the Red Devils are yet to face one of the big guns of the Premier League and the Liverpool game is their first real test.

Mourinho admits that his team are in a better state and are playing better football compared to a similar stage last season when they faced Liverpool at Anfield.

However, he was quick to remind critics that Manchester United dropped points at home to seemingly easier teams last term compared to the 'easy' wins this year.

Mourinho said in a press conference: “We have more points.

“Last season we lost a few points before we played against Liverpool, we lost a point in matches that you considered easy.

“We lost points at home against Everton, West Ham, we lost points at Southampton, last season we didn’t win them before we play [Liverpool], so we have more points than last season at this stage.”

The Manchester United manager also feels it is disrespectful towards the other sides to suggest that the Red Devils have only beaten teams they were expected to win against as things were different last season.

“It’s disrespectful towards the opponents not for us.

"Everybody knows we don’t need to hide that there are better teams than others and the table will prove that.

“But to say easy matches, is a bit aggressive to those sides.

“We dropped points in many matches that we were supposed to win in the tunnel because we wear a certain shirt.”
