Ex-Leeds United forward Noel Whelan wants to see Pawel Cibicki in action and feels Whites head coach Thomas Christiansen could have brought him off the bench against Reading.

Leeds swooped to sign Cibicki from Swedish outfit Malmo in the summer transfer window, but the forward has seen other options preferred by Christiansen, meaning fans have seen little of the new boy.

He was an unused substitute on Saturday afternoon as Leeds slipped to a 1-0 home defeat against Reading, producing a flat performance which was low on quality and energy.

Whelan says he would not have brought Kemar Roofe off, while he wanted to see Cibicki rather than Jay-Roy Grot, who replaced Pierre-Michel Lasogga in the 77th minute.

"I would like to have seen Cibicki come on", Whelan admitted on BBC Radio Leeds.

"Keep Roofe on and bang Cibicki up front, and have two out and out strikers up there.

"Bring [Pablo] Hernandez off.

"When you've got to go for games you've got to take these chances.

"And Cibicki, we've not seen enough of.

"What have we brought him in for?

"We've seen Grot. I am not sure whether today was the game for Grot. We needed a little more pace going in behind."

Cibicki, 23, has made just one appearance for Leeds since arriving at Elland Road, clocking up 79 minutes of football in the EFL Cup.

He was signed to a four-year contract by the Whites, indicating the club believe he is a player for the long term.
