Liverpool and Juventus target Stefan de Vrij has admitted that when it comes to whether or not to sign a new contract at Lazio he must do what is best for his career.

Lazio managed to see off interest in De Vrij over the summer and the Dutchman has continued to be a key man at the Rome giants this season, but his contract is now running down.

De Vrij's deal expires next summer and Lazio have been working hard to convince him to pen an extension – but they have not reached an agreement yet.

The centre-back, who has been linked with being a target for Liverpool in January, says talks are ongoing, but dropped a big hint that he will not shy away from leaving if needed.

De Vrij told Lazio Style Channel: "I am so happy at the club, we are talking about [a new contract] and hope to find an agreement, but you never know what will happen.
