Josh Windass admits it would have been easy for him to leave Rangers in the summer transfer window, but insists he never contemplated giving up on his Ibrox career.

The midfielder was linked with an exit from Rangers in the summer as questions were asked about how central to manager Pedro Caixinha's plans he was.

Caixinha has handed Windass regular game time this term and looks to rate the former Accrington Stanley man, but Windass admits he was also unsure in the summer just how much the Portuguese valued him.

Windass told Rangers TV: "I think it would have been easy for me to move in the summer and I was not sure exactly how much in the plans I was.

"But I opted not to. I wanted to stay because I always felt that if I played well enough and if I played to the way I know I can, I'd get in the team eventually", he continued.

"Luckily it came more or less straight away."

The midfielder insists though that he never thought of quitting Rangers, despite hearing messages from outside the club telling him he was not in Caixinha's plans and should leave Ibrox.

"I don't think I was ever going to go myself. It was messages from outside saying you're not in the plans, think you should go.

"But I was never contemplating leaving. I always knew I would get myself in the team eventually", Windass added.

The 23-year-old has made eleven appearances across all competitions for Rangers this term, chipping in with one goal and providing two assists for his team-mates.

Windass is under contract with the Gers for a further three years.
