Barcelona have identified Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur target Max Meyer as a possible January recruit, according to Catalan daily Sport.

The Schalke attacking midfielder, whose present contract with the Bundesliga outfit is set to expire next summer, has thus far clocked up just 247 minutes over seven appearances in all competitions in the present campaign, providing an assist.

Meyer put his suitors Liverpool and Spurs on red alert last month by confirming that he will be leaving Schalke at the end of the season, thereby opening up the possibility of signing a pre-contract agreement in January.

But it has been claimed that the 22-year-old is on the radar of Barcelona as a possible signing during the winter transfer window.

Barcelona's technical secretary Robert Fernandez and scout Urbano Ortega were in Germany at the weekend to watch several players, including Bayer Leverkusen star Julian Brandt, who has also been linked with Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

The Catalan giants are aware that it will not be easy to sign Brandt and may turn their attention to Meyer.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool and Spurs spring into action after learning about Barcelona’s interest Meyer.
