Danny Rose admits that he expected a cool reception from the Tottenham Hotspur fans when he came on to the pitch against Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

Rose returned to the pitch for Tottenham after ten months following recovering from a serious knee injury, but he did not make himself popular amongst the Spurs fans while he was out with the injury.

The defender spoke out against wage structure at Tottenham during the summer and indicated that he could consider leaving the club if they do not offer him a more lucrative contract.

While he later apologised for his comments, Tottenham fans were not left amused, but the Spurs away support were gracious when Rose returned to the first team at the Bernabeu.

The full-back admits that he was not expecting the best of receptions from the Tottenham faithful and has thanked them for the way he was welcomed back.

Rose is eyeing a World Cup squad berth for England and is keen to win his place back for both club and country.

“I was expecting a frosty reception”, the defender told the Press Association.

“So I have to say thank you to them for when I came on and when I was training afterwards.

“I want to win my shirt back here, my England shirt back, I want to win something here this season and I want to be in the World Cup squad.”

Rose will be looking to unseat Ben Davies from the left-back role in the Tottenham team over the coming weeks.
