Pedro Caixinha has insisted that he is pleased with the response he is receiving from the young Rangers players in training.

Several youngsters such as Jamie Barjonas, Aidan Wilson, Myles Beerman and Ross McCrorie have been training with the first team this week.

Apart from McCrorie, none of the other youth players have managed to play for the senior team in the current campaign.

Wilson was due to start in a friendly against Benfica in Canada during the international break, which was later cancelled, but the defender picked up an injury and subsequently missed the friendly against Morton earlier in the month.

And Caixinha, who explained that he needs the youth players in his training sessions to make up the numbers, however said that he is impressed with the manner in which they have managed to apply themselves.

“All the time we need [players], depending on the numbers that we want to have in the [training] sessions and also depending on the injury process”, the manager said on Rangers TV.

“[It’s good that] we can call the [young] players to be with us.

“Jamie was one of them.

“Myles was supposed to be another one.

“Aidan was with us for the last two weeks but he got injured before we played Morton.

“He was due to start against Benfica if we would have travelled to Canada to play that match.

“We have Ross, who can also play out of position as a full-back if you needed.

“So, the boys are getting along and giving a very good response of what we want from them and they’re working hard to have their chances.”

Rangers, who beat St. Johnstone 3-0 in the league last Friday, are next up against Motherwell in a Scottish League Cup semi-final meeting at the weekend.
