Manchester United legend Gary Pallister admits that the growing injury list at Old Trafford should be a cause for concern at an early stage of the season.

Jose Mourinho has been battling with injuries to key players in his squad with players such as Michael Carrick, Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo struggling for fitness.

And Marcus Rashford’s name was added to the growing list on Wednesday night after the striker limped off the pitch against Benfica, complaining about a suspected knee problem.

Pallister feels the mounting injury issues should be a cause for concern for Mourinho and his backroom staff, especially at an early stage of the campaign.

The former Manchester United defender said on MUTV’s Matchday Review programme: “It’s a worry as the injury list is really building up.

“We have lost three midfield players already, Bailly is out, Jones is obviously carrying a knock and Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] is yet to come back.

“It’s longer than we would like at this stage as we are only 10-12 games into the season.”

Mourinho is hopeful that Rashford’s injury is only a minor problem, but the Manchester United manger is sweating over his options ahead of Saturday’s Huddersfield clash.

Jones is expected to return to the line-up against the Terriers if needed.
