Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks admits that he is keen to repay Mauricio Pochettino’s faith in him every time he takes to the pitch for Spurs.

Winks has been another success story for Tottenham’s academy and has been a key part of the squad this season, which led him to making his debut for England this year.

The 21-year-old was also playing a key role last season until an ankle injury curtailed his progress and the midfielder admits returning from injury and playing against Real Madrid was a worthwhile journey.

“I guess it shows how far I’ve come since then”, Winks told Tottenham’s official website after the 1-1 Champions League draw at the Bernabeu.

“That [when I was injured at Burnley] was a dark time so to come to a place like this, play as well as we did and get a result makes it all worthwhile.”

Pochettino has been a huge supporter of the young English midfielder and Winks has flourished under the tutelage of the Tottenham manager over the last two seasons.

He admits that he remains indebted to the Argentine for showing faith in him, especially against Real Madrid, and he is keen to repay that trust every day on the pitch for the north London club.

“The manager has shown trust in me to start me in a game like this [at Real Madrid] and that has given me real confidence.

“Every time he puts me out there I feel I have to repay him as well as all the coaches and all the players and I will always give my all.”
