Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof admits that Benfica will always remain a special club for him.

The Swede joined Manchester United from Benfica last summer and returned to the Estadio da Luz on Wednesday night to line up against his former side for the Red Devils in a Champions League game.

The defender was impressive as Manchester United recorded a narrow 1-0 win over the Portuguese giants and Lindelof admits that it felt nice to return to Benfica and get a win over his former club.

But he has conceded that Benfica will always remain special as he grew up as a person and a footballer during his five years at the club, while their contribution towards his career will always remain huge.

Lindelof told MUTV after the game when asked how he felt on coming back to Benfica: “Well, it felt good.

“It was nice to come back here and play and to get the win as well.

“I came here when I was just 17, so I was just a kid and spent five years here and I grew up as a person and a player”, the Swede continued.

“So, they will always have a special place in my heart.”

Lindelof is still waiting for his first start in the Premier League since joining the club, but has been a regular for Manchester United in the Champions League.
