Neil Redfearn feels the lack of Championship experience of Leeds United’s summer signings has been a massive problem for the club this season.

Leeds sporting director Victor Orta along with new head coach Thomas Christiansen completed an overhaul of the squad during the summer transfer window at Elland Road.

The Whites earned praise for their recruitment following a good start to the season, but a poor run of form which has seen them lose four of their last five league games has brought forward some of the faults in their recruitment.

Leeds’ decision to do the bulk of their transfer business in the European market is now attracting criticism and Redfearn believes that the lack of Championship experience in the squad has turned out to be a big problem for the club.

He believes while some of the players have got good technical ability, most of them are unprepared for the rough and tumble of a Championship season.

“I am just looking at the bigger picture.

“The bigger picture for me, if I am honest, is that I look at the signings in the summer and there are not enough of them who understand this division and it’s massive", Redfearn explained on Radio Yorkshire.

“I think they have got ability, they all offer a little bit of something, I like [Samu] Saiz and [Ezgjan] Alioski at times, we have seen good stuff from [Pablo] Hernandez at times but real nitty-gritty horrible stuff that needs to be done, there is not enough in the eleven that does that week in week out”, he further explained.

“I don’t blame the players; you have got to look at who recruited them.”
